Ok, I have the dry and frizzy hair (mixed girl hair) and every gel that I use dries up in my hair and makes it feel hard, and then after a few hours my hair looks as if I never put any gel in it. And worse of all, it strips the layers of my hair shaft and splits my ends easily and I have to keep washing it out if I use it everyday. Any tips or reccomendations on what gel I should use? i suggest that you start with vitamin e pills. plus start wearing your hair in a curly style so you can put moisurizer in and not have it look dry and course if it was straight. i used to get straight perms but iwear it curly and grew hair down to my shoulders and i might go back to straight perms. also buy shampoos that are specifically for dry/damaged hair and use a conditioner for dry damaged hair of course or better yet leave in conditioner as a moisturizer. ttry to avoid products with mineral oil and petrolaum because they don't let moisture get in. i reccomend garnier fructis leave in conditioner. if you need more advice mail me becuase i am studying hair cuticles right now and i dont hae time to write all advice out

You might want to get a light hold gel and apply to your wet hair, than blow dry the hair smooth and apply a hairspray for hold. It will look natural, not look wet and have hold.

#1 you need to deep moisturize... get plain kitchen olive oil (it has TONS of natural vit E a great moisturizer) and put it in your hair once a week for an hour. Cover your hair with a shower cap... then wash it out with a good shampoo for dry hair...

#2 once you've washed your hair, towel dry gently (do NOT rub hair with towel as this causes frizz). With hair still wet, apply a hair serum (not get and this will dry your hair)... serum has an oily feel to it so apply just a few drops in your hand and work it into your hair.... this will make it sleek and shiny

#3 invest in a good flat iron... you can straighten it once a week and it'll stay...

#4 don't wash your hair more than twice a week if you have dry hair as shampoo strips your hair of the natural oils your scalp produces to keep your hair shiny...

As for products though, I LOVE "Super Skinny" by Paul Mitchell. Also, Redken makes a product called "Heat Glide" (from their "Smooth Down" line). Both products are serums, though, but I think you'd get much better results if you used a serum, rather than a gel :)

I have curly hair too and I've tried over the counter products...The only good results you are going to find is Salon products...I use Matrix Curl shampoo and Matrix Curl conditioner and then I finish with Design Line curl lock....smells really good to....But make sure you purchase these products at a salon not a grocery store....Ask your hairdresser he/she would be able to help you find the right products for your hair....it costs a bit more but it's worth it.

Use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. This can be found at most salons. Its not cheap but how conserned are you about your hair. Gels don't cause baldness. If you rub it down into your scalp and don't clean it for days then you clogged up the pores on your scalp and you wont allow any new hair growth from those pores. If its chemical straightener, it depends what kind. I used to use a kids straigtener on my hair cause i wanted the lowest level of damage. There are relaxers that actually dont do much damage at all. Kinda like a hair dye. And if you find that relaxer that has the extra conditioners and so forth, those are good. Use them. GEL HAS TO BE USED EVERYDAY WHERE A CHEMICAL RELAXER IS ONLY ON YOUR HAIR FOR A MAX OF 25 MIN THEN RINSED OUT AND YOU CAN DEEP CONDITION AFTER THAT.

Now if its just using a blow dryer and flatiron, there are some electrical flatirons that actually seal in some of the moisture so it doesnt do much damage either.

You have to wash it out everyday to avoid those white flakes and so dry your hair out more with shampooing. 3. theres a good chance that you may not have to wash your hair every day. If your hair doesnt get oily after one day you havent washed it, dont wash it. you dont need to.

There is a family that lives with us and one of the girls absolutely has to wash everyday cause her head is really oily. Her sister however, has thicker hair and so the oils cant even begin to coat the roots until 3 or 4 days later. So if she washes everyday, she ends up with dadruff cause of the dry scalp.

Hair gel can leave product build up or dry out the hair so use a clarifying shampoo at least once a week and follow up w/ a light conditioner. Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo is the best clarifying shampoo I've ever used.

You may also want to consider using hair pomade or hair wax instead of gel once in a while to give your hair a break.

Anywho. Look at the key ingredients on the bottle of your hair gel. Notice any one ingredient in particular that stands out as the main thing it's made of? It's (probably) petroleum jelly. I was using a store-bought bottle of gel and I noticed that there were only three ingredients: petroleum jelly, olive oil, and fragrance.

So I basically quit buying the expensive stuff and switched straight to vasoline or a generic brand of it. I know it probably doesn't sound very appealing to use at first, but it's in almost all of the hair gels in the store name brands and it really works just as good, and actually better in my case because there's no alcohol in it to dry out my hair. And it's just a lot cheaper that way too. Just don't over do it with the petroleum jelly though, a little bit is all you need because it's pretty heavy stuff. Otherwise too much of it can make your hair look really greasy.

Sorry kiddo but any "hair growing" products don't work on anything. Don't believe everything you read, research and educate yourself. Genetics rule your eyebrows or damage but nothing makes follicles grow where they didn't before.

Manipulator by Bed Head, (Ti Gi). It is not really a gel but it will seperate and allow you to place the hair where you want it Manipulator has hold but not to stiff. If you just want a light gel, crew is okay. The problem with hair gel is once the hair gel dries it will break down and you will see flakes. (not very attractive.) Sebastian has a gel that is called high contrast and if my memory serves me right, I believe it did not flake. Oh another thing. If you have build up of any of these products on your hair, mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with warm water, shampoo the hair and rinse with this mixture. Then rinse that out or shampoo it again and condition. It should take just about any build-up off including heavy hair spray.

It works really well and your hair will always be super straight. Although process takes a long time, and may be a little pricey[ not too much tho] it is definatly worth it. Trust me

those gels r the bomb. here in puerto rico they sell them for 5-10 dollars, depending on where u go to buy it, and if it's bought scarce around the area. i use punky junky to do braids diluted in a lil water n grease to slide. works wonders. i use moco guerilla on my hair. i like it cuz its yellow n slimy n keeps ur do in place
